From 14-16 November, the Law Society in partnership with the Bar Council,  the Russian Federal Chamber of Lawyers and Moscow Chamber of Advocates hosted the fourth Russian Law Week conference in London.

The three-day conference provided a unique opportunity for UK and Russian legal practitioners to discuss the recent changes in Russian law and for UK legal practitioners to find out about the current opportunities and challenges of doing legal business in Russia.

Russian Law week alternates year on year with its twin event, English Law Week, and has become a key event for legal professionals whose work involves interaction between England and Russia.

This year’s conference attracted more than 170 delegates from Russia and the UK paying tribute to the fact that despite ”challenging times”, lawyers and legal practitioners from both countries remain keen on establishing and strenghtening the bridges and connections between them.

The three-day event addressed a variety of current topic in the Russian legal sector with panel sessions on:

  • Import substituion policy - opportunities and challenges for the Russian legal market
  • Recent developments and current trends in the court system
  • The new Russian arbitration law
  • New law on bankruptcy
  • De-offshorisation in Russia: results and wishes

Two interactive cases studies on ’Other developments in Russian arbitration law’ and ’Changes in Russian corporate law: M&A and new practices’ ensured a lively discussion and participation by the audience.

This year, we also enhanced the programme with the addition of a third day, which included two roundtable discussion sessions on dispute resolution in London and third party funding in Russian and CIS related disputes.

You can take a look at the full programme attached.

English Law Week will take place in Moscow in 2017. If you wish to keep up to date with this and other Russian-related events and news, please check our regional website here and sign up for our regional newsletter by emailing EuropeCIS@lawsociety.org.uk
