We are delighted to announce that the 2017 Brazilian-British Lawyers’ Exchange Programme will take place from 19 - 30th June in Brazil.

The programme will enable solicitors from England and Wales to gain familiarity with a prominent civil law jurisdiction, build knowledge of the operation of Brazil’s legal system and make new contacts through meeting top Brazilian lawyers and spending time in leading firms.

It is open to solicitors and barristers with a commercial practice and 3 to 10 years post-qualification experience.

If you are a solicitor interested in participating, please read the attached guidance document and submit an application form to david.mcnaught@lawsociety.org.uk by 17:00 on Friday 10th March.

Programme for solicitors and barristers

The Exchange Programme is jointly organised by The Law Society of England and Wales and the Bar Council in partnership with the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB) and Lex Anglo-Brasil.

The inaugural Brazilian-British Lawyers’ Exchange Programme took place in November 2014, when a group of Brazilian lawyers participated in a four week programme in London. In May 2015 the first group of solicitors and junior barristers travelled from the UK to spend two weeks with host law firms in Sao Paulo.

Promoting UK - Brazil legal links

In 2012 the Law Society signed a friendship agreement with the OAB to bring our organisations closer together through visits, joint events and initiatives, including the exchange programme. We have worked closely with the OAB to organise a number of presidential visits to Brazil and welcome the OAB leadership to London for the Opening of the Legal Year.

The Law Society and Bar Council supported the launch of Lex Anglo-Brasil, a bilateral organisation linking lawyers in each country with events and updates on legal developments.
