Leading lawyers and experts from across Africa will discuss key legal developments, challenges and opportunities around the continent. The programme will focus on three streams:

• Business law, assessing key issues in corporate and commercial law in Africa, with a particular focus on advancing anti-corruption efforts.

• Legal practice, including the growing opportunities for arbitration practice in Africa; the implementation of regional standards on the right to a fair trial; and a panel on Law, Peace and Security in Africa.

• Public interest and development law, including the impact of international criminal law in Africa; strategies to protect human rights lawyers, journalists and activists; and a panel on the Status of Women in the Legal Profession in Africa.

The PALU conference is an excellent opportunity to network with legal professionals from government, private practice, in-house and bar associations from across Africa, and meet key figures in the human rights and good governance sectors.

About PALU

PALU was founded in 2002 as a continental membership forum of African lawyers and lawyers associations. Its work focuses on strengthening the rule of law and good governance, as well as protecting human and people’s rights and promoting socio-economic development across Africa.

The organisation’s membership brings together the continent’s five regional lawyers’ associations, over fifty-four national lawyers’ associations and over 800 lawyers from Africa and the diaspora. PALU has strong ties with African and international civil society and has advised the African Union on a range of matters including the continental judicial infrastructure.
