The Law Society organised a breakfast roundtable with experts from the region and experienced practitioners to discuss the current business climate, growing business areas, and new investment opportunities for law firms and their clients, in particular in relation to the AIFC.

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, Prime Minister’s trade envoy to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Republic of Iraq and Turkmenistan, held a keynote speech to illustrate the opportunities for trade with Kazakhstan and encourage businesses to reach out to the Department of International Trade’s team dedcated to Kazakhstan for support.

in the subsequent rountable discussion, practitioners and representatives of the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) talked about the rules and regulations in the Astana International Financial centre (AIFC) and thee additional opportunities this creates for UK, international and Kazakh law firms.

The AIFC has been operating since 1 January 2018, and will be officially launched at the beginning of July this year. The AIFC operates within a special legal regime based on Common Law, which regulates the legal relationships between AIFC participants and third parties and is aimed at the development of the financial market.
