The Law Society expresses its deepest concerns for Ms Honey May Suazo, a human rights defender and Secretary General of the Southern Mindanao Regional Chapter of the Alliance for the Advancement of People’s rights (“Karapatan”).  Ms Suazo, along with other members of the Karapatan, has been subject to ongoing acts of harassment, threat and surveillance by the military in Davao City, Southern Mindanao.  Karapatan is an alliance of individuals, groups and organisations formed in 1995 for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines.  The latest acts of surveillance and harassment follow Ms Suazo’s involvement in providing support to victims of forced eviction due to military presence in the Talaingod region, Davao del Norte Province.
