The Law Society is concerned for the safety of Mr Namal Rajapaskhe and Mr Manjula Pathiraja who are Attorneys-at-Law and who work as leading human rights lawyers. They frequently appear (often pro bono) in public interest litigation representing victims of human rights violations across Sri Lanka, irrespective of their ethnic and religious backgrounds.  They have upheld the highest traditions of the legal profession, they are well-respected and committed as human rights defenders and they often take forthright and courageous positions on issues concerning democracy, rule of law and human rights in Sri Lanka. They have appeared in a series of cases challenging arbitrary actions of all organs of the Sri Lankan Government, including the Defence Authorities.
