Mexico: Mario Luna Romero – Lawyer at Risk

The Law Society is concerned for Mario Luna Romero, a Human Rights defender and Tribal Secretary of the Yaqui in Sonara State, Northwest Mexico.  He plays an important role as spokesperson for the Yuqui community in the ongoing consultation process ordered by the Supreme Court on 8 May 2013 in relation to the construction of the Independence Aqueduct. The Supreme Court found on 8 May 2013 that the Yaqui tribe had a right to be consulted in the granting of the Environmental Impact Authorisation for the Independence Aqueduct.
