The Law Society, along with Berwin Leighton Paisner and Birmingham Law School, is today launching a ‘Human Rights in Collaboration’ initiative, designed to encourage law firms to discuss and promote human rights.
The programme of events will take place throughout the UK over the next two months, starting today and culminating on 10 December at a closing event, a panel discussion in association with the Bar Council on Freedom of Expression, and a drinks reception, at Chancery Lane.
Participating organisations, from law firms and chambers, to universities and law schools, are encouraged to hold their own events on a range of human rights topics. Suggestions include:
- Business and Human Rights
- Human Rights Act and the proposed British Bill of Rights
- migration
- global supply chains
- climate change
- Europe
Events already confirmed include:
- A screening and Q&A with the director of “India’s Daughter” at Linklaters in London
- “Legal Responsibility for Migrants at Sea: A Comparison of Europe and Asia”, a discussion at Bangor University
- “Children’s Rights and Business Principles”: Spark Talk Series, at DLA Piper in London
