The House of Lords EU Internal Market sub-committee’s have setup an enquiry into Competition law after Brexit, and the Law Society would appreciate your urgent input; our deadline is Friday 1 September.

The enquiry covers the following areas:

  • opportunities and challenges in re-shaping UK competition policy post-Brexit
  • the implications of Brexit for the application and enforcement of competition law in the UK
  • whether UK authorities have the capacity and resources to cope with additional responsibilities and a greater caseload
  • potential state aid obligations in any UK-EU free trade agreement
  • future cooperation between the UK and the EU on investigations and enforcement actions

The sub-committee’s specific questions for its enquiry cover four areas:

  • general
  • anti-trust
  • mergers
  • state aid

The Law Society would  be grateful if members of the Competition Section could focus their contributions on these specific questions only. As always, succinct contributions are requested in order to meet the six-page limit for submissions.

Our Competition Policy team are asking for contributions by close next Friday (1/9) please . This will enable us to consolidate a response and secure necessary clearances prior to submission.
TLS’ EU and Company Law Committees will also be invited to contribute to the response.
