2018 Horsfall Turner essay competition is now open

The Horsfall Turner essay prize is a prestigious award given to the best essay submission on a given topic every year. It is designed to encourage young lawyers to engage with competition and European law.

The Horsfall Turner essay prize is a prestigious award given to the best essay submission on a given topic each year.

We are pleased to announce the question for 2018 is:

‘The judgment of the Court of Justice in the Coty case changes nothing for the selective distribution model. Discuss.’

Essay submissions should be no longer than 2,500 words.

Entrants must be trainee solicitors or paralegals/stagiaires working at law firms or organisations which have an office in the UK.

The deadline for entries is Sunday 21 October 2018 at midnight.

Competition aims and prizes

The Horsfall Turner prize is designed to encourage young lawyers to engage with competition and European law.

The entrants will be judged by the Competition Section essay sub-committee and all entrants’ identities will be removed before judging. The chosen winners will each:

  • Receive an invitation to the Competition Section Annual Dinner and Awards taking place on 28 November 2018 at the Law Society (all prize winners will be seated at the Competition Section’s Chair table along with the keynote speaker)
  • Receive their award from the keynote speaker on stage and
  • Receive either the first prize cheque of £1,000 or highly commended prize cheque of £250
